So I had another exam to grade, and 10 more semester exercises to grade, but as I told the dean (to the chagrin of some), "We're paid to teach, students are here to learn, and considering most of the school's revenue comes from students paying tuition in order to learn how to practice law, the right thing to do is to let this student enroll. I started putting learning outcomes on my syllabi for the first time when I came to BYU, partly because the Dean was endorsing this as a sound pedagogical practice and partly because the BYU Center for Teaching and Learning, with whom I am consulting about re-designing my courses, also emphasized the importance of clarifying the learning outcomes.
