In the House bill, we were most concerned about sections that would allow importation of polar bear trophies taken in sport hunts in Canada, even though polar bears are listed as a “threatened” species under the Endangered Species Act; that would open nearly all federal public lands to sport hunting; and that would strip the Environmental Protection Agency of its ability to protect the public and environment from toxic lead through ammunition exposure.
