As Raff notes, the Washington Post has an editorial this week drawing attention to the important case of Ali Mussa Daqduq, the Lebanese Hezbollah commander who entered Iraq to participate in the insurgency, who allegedly orchestrated the execution of captured American soldiers (among other things), and whom we have continued to hold in military custody in Iraq even as we have wound down the rest of our detention operations. The Washington Post has this editorial which presses the U.S. to not hand over Ali Mussa Daqduq to Iraqi authorities, because of its record of releasing dangerous suspects, sub-standard security measures in its prisons, and “spotty” record of prosecutions. [read post]

Only last week five Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee wrote to Attorney-General Eric Holder urging him not to pursue a case against Ali Mussa Daqduq, a senior member of Hezbollah detained in Iraq in 2007, in federal court but rather send him for trial before the Military Commissions in Guantanamo Bay.
