Comment: It’s not clear who “confirmed” “this” to Cohan, but whoever did so was almost certainly wrong: the well-connected Bernie Reeves reported several years ago that the figure was actually around a third of Cohan’s total, and I have no reason to doubt Reeves’ ballpark figure.In one respect, the difference is irrelevant: in either case, Duke made an eight-figure settlement, presumably recognizing the university’s massive legal liability.
