Named for late Congressman Donald Pease (D-OH), the Pease limitation reduced the value of itemized deductions for high-income taxpayers by phasing out deductions by 3 percent for every dollar of taxable income above a threshold.[10] In 2017, that threshold was $261,500 for single filers and $313,800 for married couples.[11] Up to 80 percent of a filer’s itemized deductions could be capped by the Pease limitation.
