In 2008 the United States government had to come up with a computer lottery to determine who would get visas because they received so many applications quickly, but in 2009 it took until December for the cap to be reached (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services began accepting visas in April) but for 2010, 11,000 H-1B visas remained available at the end of the year so the government continued to accept applications for them into 2011.
