I wouldn't even want to claim that these judges are better than Judge Alsup because they serve on a higher court -- if Judge Alsup had been appointed to the Federal Circuit (which depends on many things besides someone's capabilities) and had served on it for a number of years, I have no doubt at all that he'd be a well-respected circuit judge by now.
