I didn’t listen to the wall to wall coverage as I was in court, on a legal aid brief in the kind of case that would probably not attract legal aid if it commenced now (in fact there were dv issues, but I’m doubtful my client could have jumped the evidential hoops). [read post]

One might say that a reasonable paying client who has been the victim of dv serious enough to qualify for legal aid in the first place, or who has concerns sufficiently serious to be able to pass the child protection test in reg 34 might be entirely reasonable in wishing to pursue minor “details” regarding contact, such as supervision or overnight stays. Some of the DV lawyers have told my students that at the end of the legal matter they want to file a substitution of counsel to ensure that they don't have unending duties of indeterminate scope, but they fear that once the batterer receives notice that the victim's counsel has withdrawn, the batterer may feel less inhibited about resuming violence. The app is called "DV Act Facts" on iTunes.Put simply, although the app is not legislation it offers a VERY quick ability to see what the legislation is about, including being able to search through the legislation much quicker than searching than through Austlii or by paper or the Parliamentary Counsel's website.
