  We don't hear Sousa marches very much on symphony programs, but when you listen to them seriously, you hear a wonderful melodic gift, terrific harmonization and countermelodies (usually in the trombones at the big moments), and lots of excitement in a small form (most run about 3 minutes) that is carefully filled out to a satisfying conclusion.
