Someone might start to believe that rational minds were at work, minds intent on saving the banks and (ultimately) the taxpayers some bucks, cushioning the body blow that would be delivered by dumping billions of dollars of loans and real estate on the market in a short period of time at distressed prices (thereby accelerating the downward pricing spiral).
