Because of this “stacking,” the UM coverage becomes secondary or excess insurance, and the injured victim may potentially recover up to $100,000 in total insurance proceeds ($50,000 from the insurance company which provided the at-fault driver’s liability coverage, plus $50,000 from the insurance company which provided the UM coverage on the injured driver’s vehicle.
