Companies in certain industries tend not to think this way. in fact, just the other day, I met with a large client of ours in the waste paper business and this person was telling me how when the price of waste paper plunged, it had been amazing how virtually all companies (except maybe half of the Chinese companies) had honored their contracts. Protection of traditional knowledge by Intellectual Property Laws is a major issue as far as concerns traditional medicines, since huge international pharmaceutical companies have been known to draw on these resources which may then be combined with other additives to produce drugs which are then patented and sold at significant profit, whilst the source of a part of that invention remains unacknowledged financially or otherwise.
