(full-text, OhioLINK access) Historical anecdote: In the Conroe oil field, in 1933, John Eastman drilled an intentionally crooked hole to drill within 22 feet of the bottom of a burning well hole (in two months). 12,000 barrels of water per day were pumped into the hole, eventually putting out the fire.
