The best (or worst) example I can think of are the laws in a few U.S. states that outlaw "computer theft" - the act of stealing a computer or computer equipment.Most of the technologically specific laws are more subtle than these computer theft laws, but they all suffer, in my humble opinion, from the same essential flaw: They focus too much on the technology and not enough on the underlying "harm" the law is intended to address, and remediate. No worries...none is required.Language just used in describing NCIS/CID/CGIS/DCIS/AFOSI third-degree tactics has to be setting off alarms for most attorneys (memo to Sweetwater Mayor Stutts) inasmuch as it's taken from a body of Supreme Court rulings condemning those precise interrogation methods.Defense Department goon squad agents remain unconcerned regarding any legal constraints otherwise describing them as outlaws.
