Radio Issues The most fundamental issue for radio broadcasters is the potential for the broadcast performance royalty – which would require that radio stations pay not only the composers for the use of music on the radio (which they currently do through ASCAP, BMI and SESAC payments), but also to pay performers (and the record companies, as the copyright holders in these performances) for the use of their recordings on the air.
