Certainly Iraqi victims of the regime see the convictions of people like Aziz, Saddam and Chemical Ali as revenge (see for example this report in Huliq), but the retributive nature of the trials alone should not serve to damn them – what matters is whether they are fair instead of unfair, sensibly selective instead of outrageously partisan, revelatory of truth or serving to obscure it.
