Since 1996, the National Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring System (NARMS) has identified increasing numbers of Salmonella isolates resistant to nine of the 17 antimicrobial agents tested: amoxicillin/clavulanate, ampicillin, cefoxitin, ceftiofur, cephalothin, chloramphenicol, streptomycin, sulfamethoxazole, and tetracycline.
