When the Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) Committee of the European Parliament voted on 21 March 2012 to approve the draft Omnibus II Directive, it took two small steps towards Solvency II implementation.The first:  although reasonable doubts still remain, it's at least possible that Solvency II will be made in time for the European Member States to transpose it into their national laws by January 2013, and for it to apply to European (re)insurers from 1 January 2014.
