Luckily, my daughter is perfect, but the lesson I learned, and what is to be learned from the Virginia case and the Times article, is that talking in a respectful manner, exhibiting a little human decency, and treating people the way you want to be treated (even when you think they aren’t listening or don’t care) are standards we all should strive to meet.
