Google Inc. had filed an appeal with the French Council of State (FCS), the Highest Administrative Court in France, requesting the annulment of a decision by the French Data Protection Authority (CNIL), which imposed a penalty of EUR 100,000 (approximately USD 110,300) on Google. [read post]

 It held that the request was not extraterrestrial in scope because Google’s search engine is a single processing system and France’s data protection laws therefore applied to all its processing, in so far as that processing relates to a French resident. [read post]

The Press Gazette reported that Google has refused to pay to show news stories in its search results in France, where the first new European Copyright Directive-based legislation is being introduced next month, but it will instead remove the short previews of news stories. [read post]
