Paying heed to Lord Shaw's classic statement in Watson Laidlaw & Co v Pott Cassels & Williamson (1914) 31 RPC 104, at which he noted that "The restoration by way of compensation is therefore accomplished to a large extent by the exercise of sound imagination and the practice of the broad axe", the judge therefore set to swinging.
