With the rise in usage of electronic trading systems, the recent judgment in Glencore v MSC[5] (albeit currently under appeal) provides a timely reminder that the release of cargo should only be made in accordance with the contract evidenced by the bill of lading, even where an electronic release system for cargo is being operated.
