Jan Crawford Greenburg points out that an oath of office flub isn’t unprecedented: It’s worth pointing out that Chief Justice William Howard Taft, who had been President himself, also flubbed the oath when he was swearing in Herbert Hoover in 1929. [read post]

  According to one posting I've seen, Roberts' flub was not unprecedent, and way back in 1928 Chief Justice William Howard Taft misstated the oath, which Herbert Hoover then repeated as spoken to him, but nobody ever claimed that Hoover was not legitimately serving as president from 1929 to 1933.
