MERS does not always report the proper name of loan owners (e.g., "Bank of America," instead of "Bank of America 2006-1 RMBS Trust"), and I've seen lots of cases where the info in the MERS system doesn't remotely match with the name of either the servicer or the trust bringing the foreclosure.
