The citation of the Claimant’s own papers did have an inflationary effect on CSF’s Impact Factor, and Sharp J held that this citation was excessive, first because the majority of citations within the Claimant’s own papers were of papers written by him, and, second, because of the poor quality of the Claimant’s papers, which meant that they should not have been cited by him or any other author.
