I am not aware that the Supreme Court itself has ever offered detailed views on how a situation like this should be handled, but I find it hard to see a big difference—in the context of a case whose result is determined by a 5-4 vote—between “concurring in the Judgment” and writing a separate opinion, on the one hand, and joining a majority opinion while writing the very same kind of separate opinion, on the other.
