As I noted in the previous post, the claims were unusual by today’s standards: there was no law barring Saturday closing, but there was a law mandating Sunday closing, so the challengers were claiming that the law indirectly undermined their bottom line (since they couldn’t be open either day of the weekend), rather than compelling them to do what their religion forbade.
