The theoretical objection comes from the fact that changes in party control of the White House should be by election, not by the vagaries of sickness (or assassination), and with some frequency in recent years the Speaker has been a member of the Opposition Party (Gingrich, Hastert, Pelosi, and now Boehner, most recently, though, of course, all Republican Presidents since Hoover have faced Democratic Speakers for most or all of their presidencies).
