To cite but one example, the University of California at Berkeley reportedly spent (and absorbed) almost $1 million in security costs in late 2017 to prepare for a free speech event that ultimately got cancelled not by the university but by the student group organizing it.Examples like this naturally raise the quite reasonable question of when the price for providing security for a controversial speaker event justifies cancelling the event.
