Barter has been around a long time. 18th century British statesman and philosopher Edmund Burke said “. . .indeed, every human benefit and enjoyment, every virtue and every prudent act – is founded on compromise and barter.” A physician from my former home state has been sticking up for Lowden by recounting her own bartering for hay, horseshoeing and even a bath tub for medical services.
