  Where once these preferences were deeply embedded int he forms of writing and in the freedom to raw inferences in the name of reporting "news", this election cycle saw news media, and especially the press deliberately and quite enthusiastically, throw themselves into the political contest as advocates for one of the candidates (not wholly unusual given the tradition of press endorsement) but also against another (and sadly for the press against the man who actually won).
