The coqui llanero is the smallest Puerto Rican Eleutherodactylus and is a herbaceous-wetland specialist only known to occur in the Sabana Seca-Ingenio Ward, Toa Baja type locality, which consists of approximately 180 hectares (ha) (444.8 acres (ac)) of seasonally flooded palustrine (marshy, non-tidal wetlands substantially covered with emergent vegetation such as trees, shrubs, and moss, or fresh-water herbaceous wetland), at 17 m (55.8 ft) above sea level.
