In August of 2018, President Trump called for the tariffs applying to steel and aluminum imports from Turkey to be doubled to 50 percent and 20 percent, respectively.[6] In 2017, the United States imported $1.3 billion worth of steel and $0.1 billion worth of aluminum from Turkey; doubling the tariffs amounts to a tax increase of roughly $0.335 billion on top of current tariffs.
