I just finished reading an intriguing essay by Tracey George and Chris Guthrie (forthcoming in Duke Law Journal) arguing for a change to the structure of the Supreme Court, primarily by expanding the size of the Court (to 15 justices) and having most cases argued and decided in panels of three (with an en banc process for important cases, including those in which a state or federal law is challenged on constitutional grounds).
