I think the strongest argument is that although what Trump did was simply say, I would appreciate if you would let it go because he’s a good guy—when the president of the United States, who has the power to fire and hire you, says he would appreciate something, it’s like the godfather giving you a kiss on the cheek and telling you he’d appreciate something.
