Shortly after the news broke last week that President Trump’s advisers were looking into the possibility of the president issuing a pardon to family members, campaign staff, and even himself for crimes he and they may have committed by colluding with Russian government officials or obstructing the investigation into such collusion, I received inquiries from reporters who wanted to know whether a president really could pardon himself.
