I spoke out about ICE arrests in state courthouses because as Chief Justice of California, I was concerned that the public trust and confidence that the judicial branch relies on was being infringed upon based on these civil arrests in our courthouses, and that the rule of law was being undermined and safety was being undermined because people were feeling disenfranchised from justice and would not come to court.
