Outpatient surgery, now-a-days a common feature in the United States (see this report), is beginning to catch on in India as well - several scientific reports have been published involving specific surgical procedures - though no actual numbers are available on the pervasiveness of their practice in freestanding clinics (A good guess may be that less capital intensive procedures (eg. traditional forms of cataract surgery) are more prevelant).
