  Third, amidst the usual welter of authorities being discussed, it was particularly interesting to see the Irish cases (Donegan v Dublin CC [2008] IEHC 288; Dublin CC v Gallagher [2008] IEHC 354) being drawn on in this context, although they are a bit of a sideshow. [read post]

We have been aware of Coombes v LB Waltham Forest (Sec of State intervening) noted at [2010] All ER (D) 59 and on Lawtel, decided on 08.03.2010 in an extempore judgment (Cranston J), but waiting for the full transcript to be provided by the High Court. [read post]

We have been aware of Coombes v LB Waltham Forest (Sec of State intervening) noted at [2010] All ER (D) 59 and on Lawtel, decided on 08.03.2010 in an extempore judgment (Cranston J), but waiting for the full transcript to be provided by the High Court. [read post]

First credit goes to HHJ Purle QC, sitting as a judge of the High Court, who has managed the seemingly impossible task of giving judgment in such a case without reference to any authority (beyond Yeoman's Row v Cobbe, but on the quantum meruit point), despite the case being redolent (at least) of the facts in Lloyds Bank v Rosset, Midland Bank v Cooke, Coombes v Smith, Cobbe (on the estoppel point), Stack v Dowden, Thorner v Major… [read post]
