According to The Economist, a weekly newspaper focusing on international politics and business news and opinion, when Australia's estate tax was repealed in 1979, more than half of people with taxable estates managed to delay their deaths by a week in order to beat the tax, and when Sweden's estate tax was repealed on January 1, 2005, people with taxable estates were 10% more likely to die on that day than on the preceding New Year's Eve.
