To be sure, Patrick Henry, speaking at the Virginia ratifying convention, thought the Article V hurdle made constitutional amendment effectively impossible, but for the most part, the Founding generation thought Article V struck a proper balance between not-too-hard and not-too-easy to amend.In the short run, the consensus view was right; amendments were feasible.
