Wells Fargo Bank, with their all-American stagecoach logo, has just been accused of violating the Servicemember Civil Relief Act, a federal law that requires members of the armed forces on active duty to be told about civil actions like foreclosure, and allows them to delay the process until they return home to defend themselves against the action… assuming they make it home, of course. On May 5, 2011, the Government Accountability Office (“GAO”) released its study of mortgage servicers and foreclosures… I guess now that everyone and their brother-in-law have conducted such a study into the mortgages servicers’ maladroit, dishonest and criminal best practices, the GAO figured they couldn’t get in any trouble for piling on with more of the same.
