The study, by researchers at Stanford and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and published online in Biosocieties journal, also shows that current incentives reward companies for developing new medicines of little advantage that compete for market share at high prices, rather than clinically superior medicines with public funding that would reduce the price of drugs to consumers and actually lower risk to the pharmaceutical companies. Recent research by scientists with the University of Colorado, Stanford University, and London’s Royal Free Hospital reveled that when taken during pregnancy, Zofran does in fact cross the placenta to reach the developing fetus, and remains longer with the baby than the mother due to a longer half-life (i.e., the elimination rate of the drug in the body).
