Sanderson Plumbing (2000):  Justice Thomas voted with unanimous court to reject several appellate courts' holdings (including one then-Judge Alito had advanced) that plaintiffs lose whenever all they have is the same evidence as in Hicks (i.e., when plaintiff proves the employer's asserted reason for the firing a "pretext" but doesn't have evidence specifically pointing to discrimination).
