At least 206 persons have become sick as a result of this E. coli 0111 outbreak, including 149 adults, 53 children, several of whom developed hemolytic uremic syndrome, a life-threatening illness that can cause kidney failure, pancreatitis, liver damage, brain damage and damage to other organs.
