Higher Ages for Mandatory Distributions Whereas employees previously had to take the required minimum distributions (RMDs) from their retirement each year beginning when they were 72, the SECURE 2.0 ACT increases the age for RMDs to 73 in 2023, and to age 75 by 2033 Once a person reaches the age for required RMDs, he or she must take RMDs every year or face tax penalties.
