So it is significant that the number of cases due to O157:H7 in the United States is down by about 50 percent, which, was included in our report in MMWR (Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report) last week, [3] which was the annual FoodNet report card on food safety in the U.S.At the same time as E. coli O157 is going down, the non-O157 STEC are going up, because detection is improving.
