 The Court held that the girl could sue the school and that victims of Title IX violations could seek the full range of remedies that are available in private lawsuits, including compensatory and punitive damages.Although both statutes have been interpreted to prohibit hostile environment and quid pro quo harassment, the Court settled on different rules of liability in private lawsuits for damages against employers under Title VII than educational institutions under Title IX.
