Gun violence is now the leading cause of death of children ages 1-19.[2] Everytown for Gun Safety reports that to date in 2022, almost 200 children have unintentionally fired a gun they found, resulting in more than 80 deaths.[3] Public health scholars are now beginning to study more deeply the population health impacts of gun violence and policy levers that might prevent or address them.
