Russia is in the tournament only because it is the host, and, though I have absolutely no shred of evidence to support the accusation, I can't help thinking that they somehow managed to rig the draw; their group (the Saudis, Egypt, and Uruguay) is probably the weakest of the eight in this year's tournament, and quite possibly the weakest ever.
